Training College and Curriculum
Tung Wah College - Diploma in Health Studies (2 years part-time)
Commencement Date: September, 2024
Class Day: Every Tuesday in the first year and Every Wednesday in the second year.
Class Location: Tung Wah College (King’s Park Campus and Mongkok Campus)
Remarks (1): Trainees can access the facilities at Tung Wah College.
Remarks (2): Outstanding trainees who passed the interview may enroll in higher diploma at Tung Wah College or other higher education institutions.
Remarks (3): Trainees who successfully completed the Scheme would be given priority to study the “Enrolled Nurse Training Programme for Welfare Sector”.
Job Placement
Trainees will be assigned to work in Tung Wah Group of Hospitals, other non-governmental organizations or private elderly/ rehabilitation service units under the employment contract for two years. In the first year, the trainees will be appointed as Care Workers. They are responsible for providing daily care and activities to the residents in the units, with a monthly salary started from HKD $15,190. In the second year, the trainees who obtained the health worker qualifications will be promoted as Health Workers within the units, with a monthly salary started from HKD $18,340. The working hours are 40 hours per week (including meal breaks) and is primarily five days a week.

Trainees participating in the Scheme will be arranged to take up care work in elderly or rehabilitation service units of Tung Wah Group of Hospitals, other non-governmental organizations or private elderly/ rehabilitation service units for two years. Trainees will enjoy the same benefits and protections as other employees at the same level under the employment contract. In addition, trainees who meet the performance requirements of the Scheme will receive a bonus allowance every six months.
The Scheme fee will be processed on a reimbursement basis. Fees will be reimbursed to the trainees annually upon their successful completion of the course and job placement each year with a confirmation of training college and Social Welfare Department.c
Tung Wah Group of Hospitals will arrange trainees to attend an orientation programme (including a first aid certificate course and personal care worker training) to equip them for entering the care sector. After taking up employment, trainees will be invited to attend a two-year part-time diploma course at Tung Wah College. When they completed the course and placement, they would receive a Combined Health Worker Registration Card and Related Diploma. Tung Wah Group of Hospitals also provides nursing-related training, such as the "Physical and Occupational Therapy Assistant Certificate Course," to help trainees acquire more nursing-related professional qualifications and enhance their competitiveness for further education and employment opportunities.
For those who are interested in developing their career in the care service and meeting relevant eligibility criteria, they may, on the basis of their multi-skills qualification, pursue other training courses on their own initiative and move further up their career ladder in the social welfare care sector after completing the Scheme.
Trainees with outstanding working and interview performance may hire by Tung Wah Group of Hospitals, other non-governmental organizations, Hospital Authority or private institutions.

After completing the two-year course, trainees with good academic result and interview performance may pursue their studies at Tung Wah College or other higher education institutions which are enabling them to move further up their career ladder in the social welfare care sector.

Trainees with outstanding performance in the Scheme can participate in overseas exchanges (such as Japan, Taiwan and Singapore etc.) to broaden their horizons and have a better understanding about the care services.
