History
Jockey Club Ngai Ching Hostel is the first hostel operated by the Tung Wah Group of Hospitals since November 1997 to provide accommodation for people with moderate intellectual disability.
Objective
Apart from providing accommodation and meals, the hostel also aims at developing independence of the service users through daily living skills training, participation in hostel life and decision making. Integration with society is emphasized through normalized community living.
Facilities (combine with Jockey Club Ngai Pok Hostel)
The hostel occupies 1425 sq. m. with 16 bedrooms, each accommodating 6-8 persons with self-contained toilets and bathrooms. There are also a meeting room, a computer corner, an exercise corner, a function room and a living room, all of which are air-conditioned. The residents can also enjoy use of communal facilities including the multi-purpose hall, central kitchen, central library, car pool, tuckshop and tea-booth in the complex.
Service Recipients
Eligibility for the Service
Moderately mentally handicapped persons who are:
- aged 15 or above;
- physically and mentally suitable for group living;
- physically healthy with no active infectious disease; and
- actively occupied in or being arranged for admission to day placement.
